1) Can I get a hard copy of the SKI-Pro Manual?

No, a printed manual does not exist. Please install the PDF manual files on your computer for easy access.

 

* Copy the PDF files from the firmware 4.0 CD to a directory on your hard disk. (With SKI-Pro 2.5, the complete documentation PDF files have been moved to the firmware CD). The files are in the Documentation\English directory. (In earlier versions the files reside on the SKI-Pro CD in the English\Manuals\PDF directory).

* Right-click on the GPS500.pdf file and select Send to | Desktop (create shortcut).

* Double-click on this shortcut to view the table of contents page. Clicking on the individual topic bars will launch the appropriate PDF files.

 

Note: Specific details of SKI-Pro can be found in its online help system, however the Getting Started with SKI-Pro section is very good for an overview. The Technical Reference Manual in the PDF files is primarily for System 530 RTK operations.

 

2) I'm trying to create a State Plane coordinate system, but I can't find my State Plane Zone.

If the zones were installed properly (the North American option was selected when SKI-Pro was installed), do the following steps:

 

* Right-click on the Projection: label in the New Coordinate System pop-up.

* Click on the word Zones to move the checkmark to it.

* You can now select your State Plane zone in the field to the right.

 

3) How do Install a geoid model?

The geoid model files are not copied automatically from the SKI-Pro CD. If you have already copied them, skip to section B, otherwise perform the following steps in A first:

 

A

* Copy the files from the x:\COMMON\Geoid\America\ folder (where x is the letter of your CD drive). Copy the appropriate geoid directory to the c:\Program Files\Leica Geosystems\ folder.

* Delete any files or subdirectories you don't need. See Geoid99.doc.

 

B

* From the SKI-Pro Tools pull-down menu, select Coordinate System Management.

* Right-click on Geoids in the Contents tree window.

* Select New... from the pop-up menu.

* Type a name for geoid model.

* Select WGS 84 as the ellipsoid.

* Select geodetic as the coordinate type.

* Using the browse button with the three dots, find the executable file you copied above. For geoid 99 this would be GEOID99.EXE. Make sure this program appears in the Path of EXE file field.

* Click the OK button to add the geoid model.

 

4) SKI-Pro is not computing my geoid separations, or my separations are being displayed as 999.99.

The first thing to do is download (right click on the following link and select Save Target As...) GEOID99-32.ZIP into the directory that contains your geoid files. Backup your old GEOID99.EXE somewhere and then delete it. Unzip and rename GEOID99-32.EXE to GEOID99.EXE. Did that fix the problem?

If not keep reading.......

Is your geoid defined with the correct ellipsoid (usually WGS84) and with geodetic coordinates?

If not, correct it. Does this fix the problem?

If so, you are done.

I not, continue.............

Does the path to GEOID99.EXE (or appropriate executable) exist?

If not, see problem #2 above.

If so, do the following steps:

* Delete the geoid directory on your hard disk.

* Follow the steps in problem 2 above and reinstall the geoid files.

Does SKI-Pro now compute the separations correctly?

If so, you're done.

If not, perform the following steps:

* Create a new geoid, i.e. GEOID99-2.

* Assign this geoid to your coordinate system.

 

5) Can I import an ASCII code list into SKI-Pro?

Yes, but we need to trick SKI-Pro a bit....

Creating a code list (in SKI-Pro 2.5) From An ASCII File

(Thanks to John Coldrick and Ari Silkey for this.)

•  Make or obtain an ASCII file with all of your codes and code descriptions.

•  If there is not a PT ID, Northing, Easting, Elevation column in the list, you need to go into Excel (or another spreadsheet program) and create these columns with numbers in them. Each point ID needs to be unique.  The Northing, Easting and Elevation do not need to be unique.  For Example you can use 5000, 5000, 100 for all the points.  Ski-Pro will not allow you to import a codelist without a column for Pt ID, Northing, Easting and Elevation.  Save the file as a .txt file type.

•  In Ski-Pro, create a project, open the project and go to Import ASCII.  Select the ASCII file with your codes.  Select Template as NONE.  

•  Ski-Pro will go through its import wizard.  Select Free positions, and Tab column separators.  In third step of wizard, Right click on the column headers to assign the column header labels.  Assign the appropriate column header labels to the columns: PT ID, Northing, Easting, Ortho Hgt, Code, Code description (listed under Thematical Codes).  Then press Next.

•  Note: A message will appear that you have selected a non-existent coordinate combination.  This is okay, select YES to continue, then press Finish.

•   Assign the data to the Project.  In that project, go to the Codelist Tab at the bottom of your screen.

•  Right click on the codelist you created and select Export to IDEX.  Give it a name and save the file as an IDEX file.

•  Then close the project.

•  Go to Tools bar at top of screen, Codelist Management, right click and select Import from IDEX.

•  Select the file that you had previously exported.

•  Now you will see your file in the codelist manager.

•  Right click on your codelist and select SAVE!!  You need to save the file to the following directory C:\ProgramFiles\LeicaGeosystems\ Shared\Codelists.

•  You are done.  Your codelist will be ready to be transferred to the sensor via Sensor Transfer.

 

6) When I import my data, I get all my projects, not just the one I selected.

* Remove the checkmark from the Include subfolders box in the Import GPS Raw Data dialog box.

 

7) I've got some bogus reference station names in my RTK data. How did they get there?

Most likely they got there because the operator didn't wait long enough for the rover receiver to get the base information. If the rover doesn't have all the base information, it will create a date/time name. This will happen only when the rover is turned off/on between points, and the operator doesn't wait long enough to receive all the information. To avoid this, set the base position transmission rate to 10 seconds, and make sure the site is occupied long enough to receive all the data.

Note: To correct this problem, you'll have to export your data as SKI ASCII baselines, edit the date/time names to the correct base name, and then re-import the data from the edited SKI ASCII file.
