1) Can I get a scale factor in a report for each point?

Yes, but you need to export an ASCII file to do it.

From the top pull-down menu, select Export | ASCII data...

Click on the Settings... button as seen below:

Settings Button

Scroll down the list in the Point tab as seen below and select the scale factor from the left side that you want to see, placing it in the appropriate position in the list on the right side.

2) I'm trying to create a State Plane coordinate system, but I can't find my State Plane Zone.

If the zones were installed properly (the North American option was selected when SKI-Pro was installed), do the following steps:

* Right-click on the Projection: label in the New Coordinate System pop-up.

* Click on the word Zones to move the checkmark to it.

* You can now select your State Plane zone in the field to the right.

3) Can I get point descriptions to display?

Yes, you can also see attributes and annotations if you want.

Right click on the Points tab header and select Columns... as shown below:

Access Header Columns

Put a check mark in the columns you want visible in your point list, and put them in the correct order by highlighting the column and clicking either the Move Up or Move Down button as seen below:

Select and Order Columns

4) Can you tell me how to convert state plane coordinates to ground coordinates?

Open a project which has a state plane coordinate system attached to it.

In the View/Edit screen, click on the background and drag a box around the points you want to use in the computation. They will turn blue as shown in the figure below:

With the points selected, right-click on the background and select Compute Ave. Combined Factor... as seen below:

Combined Pop-up

This will bring up a dialog box showing the average scale factors computed using the selected points. You can enter in a value to subtract from the northings and eastings so that you won't confuse these ground coordinates with the state plane coordinates. (I recommend that you do this).

Computed Scale Factors

When you click OK, you will be able to see your modified northings and eastings in your point list as shown:

Modified coordinate results

NOTE: This computation is only one-way. To be able to fully utilize these ground coordinates, you will have to export the point IDs, modified northings, modified eastings, and ortho heights to an ASCII file and import this file into a new project. Then you will have to create a transformation and coordinate system using the existing project and the new project.

5) Computing the geoid model failed. What do I do?

First, check that the .bin files are in the directory with geoid executable file specified in your geoid definition.

Second, make sure that the geoid definition has the same reference ellipsoid as the coordinate system to which it is attached.

Third, make sure that the geoid's coordinate type is Geodetic.

Fourth, if you are using a .gem file (either on the instrument or in LGO), make sure you changed the E to a W in the longitude field when you created it.

If these three things don't solve the problem, see FAQ #4 in the System 500 FAQ, FAQ SKI-Pro section.

6) How do I import a WGS 84 lat/long text file?

Make sure your text file has latitudes and longitudes in the following format:

Lat Lon text file format

The import procedure is explained in this flash movie:

Importing WGS 84 Lat/Long text files.
